Why Do CAMS Statements Come Password Protected?
CAMS, or Computer Age Management Services, is India’s biggest RTA for mutual funds. They manage records for fund houses ranging from HDFC and SBI to ICICI Prudential and a bunch of others.
When you ask for a Consolidated Account Statement, CAMS lets you set a password. This isn’t just to annoy you. Your statement has your PAN number, folio details, investment amounts, and scheme names. That’s sensitive stuff. The encryption makes sure that even if the email lands in the wrong hands, nobody can peek at your finances without that password.
A quick look at their password rules:
- At least 6 characters
- Needs 2 numbers minimum
- You can use @, #, $, * and _ if you want
- Alphanumeric combos are the safest bet
How to Download a Fresh CAMS Statement
If you need a clean statement from scratch:
Go to camsonline.com, head to Investors > Statements > Consolidated Account Statement. Accept the disclaimer. Pick “Detailed” as your statement type. Set the period to “Specific Period” and enter 01/01/1990 to today – this covers your full history. Check “With zero balance folios” so you don’t miss any old holdings. Enter your registered email. Create a password – and for your own sake, write it down this time. Confirm it, hit submit, and check your inbox.
The statement usually lands within a few minutes.

Opening the PDF on Different Devices
On a PC or Mac, just download the file and double-click. Adobe Reader will ask for the password. Enter it and you’re in.
On your phone, save the attachment and open it with any PDF reader. Adobe Acrobat Reader works well on both Android and iOS. Enter the same password you set.
The password works across every device. You don’t need separate passwords for phone vs laptop.
You Forgot the Password. Now What?
Honestly, this happens more often than you’d think. You set the password in a hurry, opened the statement once, and by the time you need it again, the memory is gone. Don’t beat yourself up.
Request a new statement. This is the fastest way out. Go back to the CAMS portal, fill in the form again, set a new password, and get a fresh statement in your email. It takes two minutes.

A Few Things That Actually Help
Keep a standard password for all your CAMS downloads. Something like “CAS2026@fund” is easy to remember and meets their requirements.
If you’re downloading statements to use with portfolio analysis tools like MFPA or Value Research, copy the password into your notes before you submit the form. Makes life easier.

- On a Mac, Preview usually works fine with CAMS files
- On an iPhone, the built-in Files app can open password-protected PDFs
