There is no single best online-shopping card — only the best card for where you actually spend. Amazon-heavy? Flipkart-heavy? Food delivery? Match the card to the merchant, check the cap, and ignore the headline rate. Every figure below carries its cap and fee, verified against bank pages as of October 2026.

| Card | Best for | Earn | Annual fee |

| --- | --- | --- | --- |

| Amazon Pay ICICI | Amazon.in (with Prime) | 5% / 3% / 2% / 1% by bucket | Nil |

| SBI Cashback | All online spends | 5% to Rs 2,000/cycle, 1% offline | Rs 499 (waiver thresholds on SBI Card page) |

| HSBC Live+ | Dining, delivery, groceries | 10% to Rs 1,200/month, 1.5% rest | Rs 999, waived above Rs 2L/yr |

| Flipkart Axis | Flipkart, Myntra, partners | 5% / 7.5% Myntra / 4% partners / 1.5% rest | Rs 500 (confirm waiver on Axis page) |

| HDFC Millennia | SmartBuy/PayZapp route | 5% via SmartBuy/PayZapp | Rs 1,000, waived at Rs 1L/yr |

| SBI SimplyCLICK | Amazon, BookMyShow, Cleartrip | 10X points on partners | Rs 499 (confirm waiver on SBI Card page) |

| Amex MRCC | Transfers to travel partners | Membership Rewards points | Confirm current schedule on Amex page |

Key takeaways

  1. There is no single best online-shopping card — match the card to where you actually spend, then check the cap.
  2. Amazon Pay ICICI is the default for Prime members: 5% on Amazon.in, lifetime free, but education, international and off-Amazon utility spends earn nothing.
  3. SBI Cashback covers all online spends at 5% up to Rs 2,000 a cycle — the monthly online cap dropped to Rs 2,000 from 1 April 2026.
  4. HSBC Live+ earns 10% on dining, delivery and groceries up to Rs 1,200 a month; it only wins if that bucket fills.
  5. Flipkart Axis and HDFC Millennia reward loyalty to their own ecosystems (Flipkart/Myntra and SmartBuy/PayZapp).
  6. Banks devalue quietly — usually by shrinking caps, not headline rates — so redo the fee-vs-rewards sum yearly.

1. Amazon Pay ICICI — the default for Prime members

5% on amazon.in with Prime (3% without), 2% on Amazon Pay digital spends, 1% on the rest — credited as Amazon Pay balance, not cash. Lifetime free. Since October 2025, education, international and off-Amazon utility spends earn nothing (Source: ICICI MITC, January 2026). If half your online life is Amazon, stop reading here.

2. SBI Cashback — the flat online rate, with a lower ceiling than before

5% on online spends up to Rs 2,000 cashback a cycle, 1% offline, Rs 4,000 overall monthly cap — down from the older Rs 5,000 online cap, changed 1 April 2026 (Source: SBI Card customer notices). No merchant restrictions to track, which is the whole appeal: one card, one rate, one cap to remember.

3. HSBC Live+ — the food-and-grocery card

10% on dining, delivery, groceries, shopping and utilities to Rs 1,200 a month, then 1.5% on most other spends except international — structure effective 26 July 2026 (Source: HSBC product page). Rs 999 fee, waived above Rs 2 lakh a year. The maths only works if your 10% bucket fills most of the Rs 12,000 monthly cap; below that, the SBI Cashback earns more with less thinking.

4. Flipkart Axis — for the Flipkart/Myntra household

5% on Flipkart and Cleartrip (quarterly caps apply), 7.5% on Myntra, 4% on preferred partners like Swiggy and Uber, 1.5% elsewhere (Source: Flipkart cashback T&Cs). Axis rewrote several card T&Cs in August 2026, so re-confirm caps on the Axis page before applying — card pages move faster than blog posts.

5. HDFC Millennia — for the SmartBuy route

5% cashback on spends routed via SmartBuy and PayZapp, Rs 1,000 fee waived at Rs 1 lakh a year (Source: HDFC Bank Millennia page and FAQ, February 2026). Worth it only if you actually shop through the SmartBuy portal; the base online rate elsewhere is ordinary.

6. SBI SimplyCLICK — the partner-points alternative

10X reward points on Amazon, BookMyShow, Cleartrip, Urban Company and similar partners, Rs 499 fee. Points convert to statement credit at a fixed value — work out the effective rate on your own top two partners before comparing it with flat-cashback cards.

7. Amex Membership Rewards — only if you fly

Still issued, still loved by travellers who convert points to airline miles. For straight online shopping cashback it loses to the cards above. Check Amex's current fee schedule — it moves more often than the others.

Cards removed from this list (and why)

  • Standard Chartered DigiSmart: no longer issued. Existing holders were migrated; don't apply.
  • Ola Money SBI Card: the SBI-Ola partnership ended; no longer issued.
  • Paytm First (Citi): Citi exited Indian retail; existing cards moved to Axis. Don't chase old reviews of it.

A dead card in a 'best of 2026' list is how you spot a post nobody maintains. If you see one elsewhere, close the tab.

How to choose in two minutes

1. Name your top two online merchants by monthly spend.

2. Take each card's earn rate on exactly those, apply the cap, subtract the fee.

3. The biggest remainder wins. Re-do the sum yearly — banks devalue quietly, usually by shrinking a cap rather than the headline rate.

Conclusion

Most online shoppers land on one of two: Amazon Pay ICICI (Amazon-heavy, Prime) or SBI Cashback (everything else online). Add HSBC Live+ only if food and groceries fill its cap. One card, used well, beats three cards used hopefully.

Frequently asked questions

Which credit card is best for online shopping in India?

For Amazon-heavy households with Prime, Amazon Pay ICICI (5%, lifetime free). For everything else online, SBI Cashback at 5% up to Rs 2,000 per cycle. Add HSBC Live+ only if dining and groceries fill its Rs 12,000 monthly cap.

Is the SBI Cashback card still worth it after the cap cut?

Yes, if your online spending crosses roughly Rs 40,000 a month you will hit the Rs 2,000 cap; below that the flat 5% with no merchant tracking remains the simplest deal. Offline spends earn just 1%.

Do reward points on online spends count toward fees?

Indirectly — cashback and statement credits offset the annual fee. Always subtract the fee from your realistic yearly earn before choosing; the waiver thresholds on SBI Card and HSBC pages decide the final maths.
